Education experts have asked the Ministry of Education and Training to create conditions for universities to have more autonomy in making decisions regarding administration, recruitment and enrolment quotas. These tasks should not be the responsibility of the ministry, according to Asso Prof and Dr Dao Cong Tien, the UEH's former rector, who spoke at a recent workshop on education reform held at University of Economics HCM City (UEH).
Many universities nationwide have opened new departments of learning, despite failing to meet the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET)’s requirements on the number of doctors and masters. MoET has recently released the result of an inspection on 24 universities, which found that many of them have continued to launch new departments without qualified faculty.
